Academic Urgent Care Fellowships

As the field of pediatric "urgentology" continues to grow, you may have noticed that there are one-year fellowships popping up around the country.  SPUC members have been the pioneers in developing such fellowships currently in existence--programs at PM Pediatrics headed by Eric Weinberg and at Emory led by Amy Pattishall.  Here's another SPUC member entering into the world of pediatric urgent care fellowship--Deena Berkowitz with Children's National.

The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Children’s National Announces a Pediatric Urgent Care Fellowship

Children's NationalThis fellowship program at Children’s National in Washington DC will train general pediatric residency graduates/general pediatricians in aspects of clinical care, procedural skills, teaching strategies, quality improvement and research fundamentals related to the emerging field of pediatric urgent care. The goal of the fellowship is to facilitate the integration of pediatricians into all pediatric environments—emergency departments, fast track, urgent care, private practice and develop future leaders in the field.

Fellows spend dedicated blocks of time learning from specialists in disciplines such as orthopedics, radiology and ENT and gaining experience in sedation, ultrasound, and procedural skills.  Regularly occurring didactics and a course in quality improvement is provided and fellows are encouraged to participate in departmental teaching activities, administrative committees, research, and quality improvement projects depending on interest.
