IT IS TIME! The SPUC 2018 Fall Conference program is complete and registration is open! We are pleased to announce our host for the SPUC 2018 Fall conference: Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida. The conference will be held at Nemours from October 5th-7th, 2018. Attendees have the opportunity to participate in a Leadership Summit on October 4th. This will provide a great chance for participants in leadership positions to hear important information on operational management styles and overcoming challenges in the business of urgent care. This unique precourse summit will provide both presentations as well as panel discussions. The core program will begin on October 5th. Nemours Children’s Hospital has graciously agreed to host the full program as well as provide the opportunity to tour one of their urgent care sites.

Upon popular request from our members and conference surveys, the Leadership Summit length has been extended to allow for coverage of additional material and further discussion. Jason North with Merchant Medicine will open our Leadership Summit with a presentation on trying to stay profitable in a competitive market. Panel discussions covering hot topics in Pediatric Urgent Care Medicine will follow. One of the panels will include “How to Make a Living” covering market assessment and business practices. In addition, there will be another panel discussion on existing and proposed fellowship training for physicians, APRNs and RNs.   The day will be wrapped up with a presentation on MOC in the Pediatric Urgent Care setting.

Dr. Virginia Moyer, Vice President of Maintenance of Certification and Quality with American Board of Pediatrics will open our general session on October 5th.  Dr. Moyer presentation will be an extremely valuable contribution to the program. We are also very excited about a few firsts for the SPUC fall conference this year. One of these first includes offering a two hours hands-on simulation lab to participants and MOC credit for physicians participating in the simulation. In addition, we were also able to develop and include a great nursing track option in the program for the first time this year.   In fact, our keynote speaker for Saturday, October 6th, is Terry Foster, a national speaker at medical conferences known for his humor.

Our conference will focus on covering common general pediatric presentations in the urgent care setting as well as procedural skills utilized in this setting. Attendees will have exposure to lectures as well as workshops. Many of the topics were determined after reviewing participants’ surveys from the 2017 conference. Additional topics include “No Need to be Rash” (Dermatology), “First 5 Minutes” (emergently ill patients in the UCC), and “Keeping with the Beat” (Cardiology).

Top poster presentations will be presented in the form of podium sessions. Attendees will also be provided the opportunity of hearing additional poster presentations in a more informal format during the conference. The program registration and lodging information is available on our website and in the mobile meeting guide

We cannot wait to see everyone this fall in Orlando for another enjoyable and informative SPUC conference.
