Bio

Physician Continuous Improvement Specialist, Nemours Children’s Hospital: responsible for working locally with staff from Enterprise Office of Operational Excellence to facilitate application of continuous improvement principles in process design and improvement at NCH. Specific responsibilities include facilitate, guide and support Enterprise, departmental or cross-departmental CI work, as directed by executive leadership; mastery of Continuous Improvement standards & methodologies; application of waste elimination tools & techniques to identify clinical and operational opportunities for improvement; contribute to the development of standard work, with an emphasis on clinical standardization; educate staff on CI methodologies and approaches and serve as a resource to NCH units and teams; challenge the status-quo, encourage break through thinking, focus on data-driven decisions & support experimentation

2014- present              Patient Safety Officer, Nemours Children’s Hospital: ensure development of a robust Safety Culture in this brand new hospital; oversee development and tracking of safety and quality data and management of hospital improvement initiatives in response to data trends; oversee and review response to reportable and un-reportable safety events; coordinate with Medical Staff, Medical Executive Committee and Continuous Improvement in response planning and improvement initiatives; oversee administration and response planning for Safety Culture Survey; oversee preparation for regulatory surveys; leadership of the Patient Safety Committee, including agenda planning and goal setting;

 2011- present              Chief, Division of Emergency Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Nemours Children’s Hospital; responsible for leadership of the Division, management of physicians, administration of budget; responsible for development and oversight of clinical care programs in both the emergency department and urgent care sites; responsible for development and oversight of education programs for staff, and trainees (students, residents, fellows); responsible for development and oversight of research program; responsible for interface with all other divisions and the institution at large, and interface with community organizations providing services for children
